There is no current legislation regarding this.

CPR/AED Training

Anyone expected to use the AED must complete CPR and AED training from a nationally recognized organization.

EMS Notification

The AED must be registered with the local EMS system or nearby hospital, which will oversee its use, training, and maintenance.

Anyone owning an AED must inform the local emergency communication center about the device’s location and type.

Maintenance Program

The AED should be maintained and tested according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Notification of Use

If someone uses an AED to provide emergency care to a person in cardiac arrest, they must:

Call the EMS system as soon as possible.
Report the use of the AED to the appropriate authorities.

IL Comp Stat § 230 ILCS 5/31.2	2014	Organization licensees (horse racing facilities) shall make available no less than 2 automated external defibrillators (AEDs) that are operational and accessible when backstretch workers are present at their racing facilities. At least one AED shall be placed in the paddock of their racing facilities. At least one AED shall be placed on the backstretch of their racing facilities.
IL Comp Stat § 105 ILCS 110/3	2014	Beginning with the 2014-2015 school year, training on how to properly administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (which training must be in accordance with standards of the American Red Cross, the American Heart Association, or another nationally recognized certifying organization) and how to use an automated external defibrillator shall be included as a basis for curricula in all secondary schools in the state.

IL Comp Stat § 210 ILCS 74/1 – 74/55	2005	Creates the Physical Fitness Facility Medical Emergency Preparedness Actalso known as the Colleen O’Sullivan Law – Requires various indoorphysical fitness facilities to have at least one automated externaldefibrillator. This law does not include health facilities that serveless than 100 individuals, or that is located in a hospital, hotel/motelor any outdoor facility. It also does not apply to facilities that donot employ people who instruct, train or assist people who use thefacility. The facilities that are required to have an AED on-site musthave had a written emergency response plan in place by July 1, 2005.
