Guidelines for AED (Automated External Defibrillator) Use:

Physician Oversight

Currently, there is no legislation requiring physician involvement in AED programs.

CPR/AED Training

It is recommended that anyone using an AED should complete appropriate training. This includes taking a CPR course or a basic first aid course that covers CPR and AED usage. Trainees should also demonstrate their ability to use the AED effectively.

EMS Registration

If you own or manage an AED, it is encouraged to register the device with your local emergency medical services (EMS) director. This ensures authorities are aware of the AED’s location in case of emergencies.

Regular Maintenance

AEDs must be tested and maintained regularly according to a proper schedule to ensure they are functional and ready for use in emergencies.

Reporting Use

If an AED is used to assist someone in cardiac arrest, you must immediately activate the emergency medical services (EMS) system to get professional help on the way as quickly as possible.
