Learn About Wearable Cardioverter Defibrillator

As AED heart is getting popular people are getting more and more curious about it and that’s why people should know about different types of AEDs as well. Automated External Defibrillators are devices that restore a normal heartbeat by sending an electric pulse or shock to the heart. They are used to prevent or correct an arrhythmia, a heartbeat that is uneven or that is too slow or too fast. There are three different types of AED and we are going to learn about wearable cardioverter-defibrillators.

Wearable Cardioverter Defibrillator

It is known as (WCD or “LifeVest”) and is prescribed specially for patients at risk of sudden cardiac death (SCD). It consists of cloth, an electrode belt, and a monitor. While some defibrillator devices are implanted under the skin, the wearable defibrillator is worn under the clothes, directly against the patient’s skin. It can be removed also.

With a WCD, patients can continue to do many of the things they enjoy, like they can spend time with family and friends, they won’t have to be worrying about the risk of SCD. The only time a patient should remove their WCD is while taking a short shower or bath. This should only be done when someone is home with the patient, if possible.
